I will never forget that retreat for the rest of my life. We were waiting for the results after performing the best show the corps had ever performed. As they were announcing the results we were told by the administration that it was too bad, we will try again next year, the Cabs had won.
The announcer announces "In second place…The Hawthorne Caballeros. And in first place…The Long Island Sunrisers!”
The corps was shocked and frozen for a couple of seconds before we realized we had won!! At this point Gary Williams proceeded to climb on my shoulders as the corps went wild!! We had won our first DCA Championship!!!!
